Life Ed VIC CEO takes on Run Melbourne
Melbourne local and Life Ed Victoria CEO, Samantha Nanni is trading in her teaching and leadership tools for running shoes as she takes on Run Melbourne on 21 July, to raise funds to help Life Ed Victoria deliver education with impact to more children across the state, with particular focus on body safety.
The issue of gender-based and family violence is complex. It needs to be addressed at all levels, with education being one important part of the solution. That’s why Life Ed Victoria supports the calls for action and is committed to ensuring children across our state can access education which will help keep them safe.
From the concept of consent being introduced from kindergarten, through to education experiences across primary school designed to spark discussions about relationships, empathy, communication, body clues and help seeking behaviours, a major theme that runs throughout all of Life Ed’s evidence-backed, curriculum-aligned and strengths-based modules is respectful relationships including body safety.
For example, our ‘Talk About It’ program extends on this and encourages young people to develop vital protective behaviour strategies, investigate relationships, identity, puberty and sexual health. Aligned to the Respectful Relationships Curriculum, it is underpinned by the fundamental right of safety.
Ms Nanni is participating in Run Melbourne to raise funds and awareness to deliver this important work because as a not-for-profit, and the largest and most recognised provider in preventative health education in schools, Life Ed has seen first-hand the power of education in preventing negative and harmful cycles.
Life Ed takes the complex issues – like body safety – and creates impactful learning experiences that embeds lessons for life. In addition to Life Ed’s memorable face-to-face Healthy Harold visit, the not-for-profit provides support to schools, teachers and parents so they can continue the conversation in and beyond the classroom.
