Food for thought in the search for Australia's Healthier Lunchboxes

After winning this year’s search for Australia’s Healthier Lunchboxes (AHL), Camila and her daughters, Emily and Hailey from Victoria are sharing their experience to spark ideas and inspiration for other families looking to make healthier easier.
Packing a healthy lunchbox is important to me because I want to give my daughters the best chance. I want their bodies and brains to be nourished, so they can feel good, focus, and thrive.
Being involved in AHL helped me realise that I needed to pay more attention to the five food groups and make sure the girls were getting enough protein in their lunchboxes. Since then, I’ve been more mindful about creating a better balance.

As part of the four-week initiative in January, parents and schools were able to access free, engaging and practical resources and activities from Healthy Harold and partner Woolworths – from budget-friendly recipes, to colourful activities you can do at home with kids to spark healthier conversations.
Camila was one of 10 AHL winners selected from across the country who received a share in the prize pool valued at $18,000. Emily’s lunchbox was selected because it included a variety of healthy and balanced options including a cheese and vegetable sandwich on rye bread, grapes, capsicum, homemade oat-tahini chocolate chip cookies, edamame and popcorn.
My advice is to keep it simple and pack foods you know your kids will actually eat. Start with what works, and build from there. The best thing you can do is listen to their feedback — it makes the whole process easier and more enjoyable for everyone.
