Making education more accessible
Today, as part of Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD), we are highlighting the power of digital inclusion through the launch of our new accessibility features on our website.
By integrating new accessible software into our web design, students, teachers and parents who visit lifeed.org.au to seek strengths-based, evidence-backed and curriculum-aligned resources will find it easier.
How?
Using Recite Me cloud-based technology, visitors to our website will be able to customise their experience and choose how they navigate and consume content.
Using the Assistive Toolbar, visitors can use screen readers, download content, or change the website’s language, font style, size, colour, zoom functionality and keyboard navigation to suit their needs.
At Life Ed, we’re always looking for opportunities to enhance the student experience by breaking down barriers and giving them the tools they need to explore, investigate and use the most up-to-date information to make healthier and safer choices. Improving our website to better enable this is just one example of how we’re working towards empowering young people of all abilities.
Our accessible education materials
At the core of our Education work, we believe that all young Australians should see themselves in the Life Ed program.
That’s why our Education team continue to work with young people, teachers, communities and peak bodies to ensure all content is accessible and inclusive across our modules.
This work has included embedding closed captions within all of our middle and upper primary modules, featuring a wide range of young Australians in our content including young people with disabilities, and consulting with people with lived experience as we develop material.
