Relate Respect Connect launches as abuse spikes
Life Ed has launched a new module on its digital learning platform, Life Ed Online as reports of increasing online abuse and cyber-bullying during coronavirus isolation are shared.
Speaking on the NSW Department of Education’s Every Student Podcast, Australia’s eSafety Commissioner, Julie Inman Grant, shared that digital harm has risen by an alarming 40 per cent during the COVID-19 pandemic. This includes a 21 per cent rise in cyber-bullying among our young people and 86 per cent spike in image-based abuse and sexting.
Knowing this, healthy relationships have never been more important.
The new module, Relate Respect Connect, empowers students with skills and strategies to help them develop safe and respectful relationships both face to face and online. The program teaches children how to make good friends, deal with bullying issues, develop self-respect and respond to unsafe situations.
Despite school restrictions and social distancing measures, Life Ed and its much-loved mascot Healthy Harold have forged forward, ensuring the youngest members of our society aren’t left behind. For the first time in their 40 year history, schools can request access to their preventative health education program online!
