Celebrating resilience in the Goldfields region

Tuesday, 9 Sep 2025

Life Ed, including its iconic mascot Healthy Harold, has visited children in the Goldfields region of WA as part of their initiative to celebrate the “Resilience of Country Kids”, made possible thanks to funding from the Channel 7 Telethon Trust.

As part of this regional tour, specialist Life Ed Educators taught their full suite of modules to students across Kalgoorlie and Esperance.

“We explored all the tough topics facing young people today – from alcohol and other drugs, through to physical health, online and real-world safety, and social and emotional learning,” said Bernie Foley, Executive Officer at Life Ed WA.

“Teachers are under pressure to deliver the crowded curriculum. This is especially difficult for those in remote schools. That’s where Life Ed’s evidence-informed, curriculum-aligned and strengths-based approach comes in.

“We focus on early education so we can build health literacy, giving children the tools to navigate life’s challenges with confidence. We do this by introducing real-world topics in a safe, engaging way, helping students to practise critical thinking and positive decision-making. We’re grateful to the Telethon Trust team for sharing in this vision.”

Life Ed WA has been supported by the Channel 7 Telethon Trust for a number of years. Each year, the Trust’s support has meant memorable experiences for children in regional WA.

It’s great to see Telethon’s support for these initiatives reach and positively impact the lives of country kids who might otherwise miss out on these valuable educational experiences.

We are dedicated to empowering children with the essential knowledge and skills to lead healthy, safe, and resilient lives.
