Life Ed NT (LENT) is set to make a bigger impact across the Territory after securing a five-year funding agreement with the Northern Territory Department of Education and Training.

The new agreement gives LENT the stability to expand its reach, delivering health and wellbeing education to children and young people in some of Australia’s most diverse and remote communities. In Term Two, LENT’s two educators and a trainee visited 25 schools, and the pace is picking up: Term Three will see the team travel over 18,000 kilometres to 24 remote schools in the Big Rivers (Katherine) and Barkly regions, as well as six schools in Darwin and Palmerston.

Adapting to the Territory’s vast distances and unique challenges, LENT’s educators tailor each session to suit the needs of local students. Specially developed Indigenous resources, created in consultation with local communities and elders, ensure lessons are culturally relevant and accessible, covering topics from nutrition and personal safety to making positive choices.

With this multi-year funding, LENT is focused on building its team and reaching more children, ensuring that even the most isolated schools have access to vital health education. Healthy Harold, the organisation’s well-known giraffe mascot, continues to be a hit with students, helping to bring important messages to life in classrooms across the NT.

This commitment from the Department of Education and Training highlights the value of consistent, accessible health education, particularly for students in rural and remote areas. As LENT continues its work, more young Territorians will have the chance to build skills and confidence for a healthier future
