WA Minister celebrates winner of Australia's Healthier Lunchboxes

Monday, 2 Jun 2025

A big giraffe with some big prizes visited East Wanneroo Primary School with WA Minister for Education, the Hon. Sabine Winton MLA on Friday, 30 May.

They were celebrating one of the school’s littlest learners who has earned the title of Western Australia’s winner of Australia’s Healthier Lunchboxes.

We were so excited to be joined by the Minister to celebrate with Australia’s Healthier Lunchboxes winner, Willow and the East Wanneroo school community. Willow did such an amazing job on her entry which was bursting with colour with a range of fruits and vegetables, cheese and yoghurt, as well as her favourite Vegemite sandwich.

Just as we partner with students and teachers to deliver education in schools across the country, we want to empower families by shining a light on practical and affordable ideas to incorporate healthier options. Because when we make healthier choices, we can go, grow and glow – like Healthy Harold teaches in our nutrition-based modules.
Bernie Foley, Executive Officer at Life Ed WA.

This is how Life Ed embeds long-term learning, by working together with local communities – inside and beyond the classroom – to give Aussie kids the fuel and tools they need to make positive choices into the future.

It was wonderful to celebrate Willow’s win with the East Wanneroo Primary School community. Celebrating initiatives like Australia’s Healthier Lunchboxes is a great way to show students how healthy habits can be fun, creative and rewarding.

Good nutrition is so important for learning. By encouraging children to make healthy choices early, we’re helping set them up for success not just at school, but for life.
The Hon. Sabine Winton MLA, WA Minister for Education.

Almost 1,000 families entered the search for Australia’s Healthier Lunchboxes, which ran from 3 to 28 February. Willow’s family is one of six winners from across the country to receive a Woolworths e-gift card valued at $1,000. Her school will also be provided one valued at $2,000, thanks to partner Woolworths.

A nutritious lunch is essential for young people to help them thrive at school and at home.

As Today’s Fresh Food People, we’re committed to making healthier easier for families and communities. Programs like Free Fruit for Kids, which has provided more than 160 million pieces of fruit to children in Australia and New Zealand, are just one way we support healthier lifestyles.
Sarah De La Mare, Woolworths Head of Community and Sponsorships.
