Learning across six seasons

Brookman Primary School in Western Australia was recently named a winner of our Growing Good Grains Grants (GGGG) initiative, thanks to Life Ed’s partnership with Bakers Delight’s Healthy Solutions range.
Healthy Harold and the local Life Ed Western Australia (LEWA) team visited the school on 19 November to celebrate their efforts, which saw them secure a school garden grant valued at $1,000. They also presented students and teachers with a thank you garden plaque.
This grant will give the school’s six seasons garden a boost, planted to ensure fresh produce can blossom across all six seasons – which guide the local First Nations Noongar community. The school’s Aboriginal Education Officer developed this garden concept with the students, who have delighted in this learning opportunity so much that they decided to name the garden after her.
Securing this grant to create Aunty Merinda's Six Seasons Garden at Brookman Primary has not only enabled us to upgrade our school environment — it's another step towards cultivating knowledge, connection, and respect for the land in our students.
The GGGG initiative encouraged primary schools, preschools and early learning centres across Australia to empower students to learn more about the origins of food by reimagining their school food gardens for a chance to secure one of 25 garden grants.
Throughout the four-week GGGG campaign – from 3 to 29 June 2024 – schools were also able to access free resources online to assist with their submissions and to create unique learning experiences in the classroom. From taking a journey through the life cycle of bread, through to growing their own wheat and making their own fresh dough, Life Ed and Bakers Delight’s Healthy Solutions range created a variety of hands-on activities and easy lesson plans that could be tailored according to class needs.
