Ways to Get Involved

The search for Australia's Healthier Lunchboxes is on

Monday, 3 Feb 2025

The annual campaign delivered by Life Ed and Woolworths launches today, 3 February. It aims to educate children on the facts about food to encourage them to go, grow and glow through healthier choices.

After winning last year’s search for Australia’s Healthier Lunchboxes, Christine and her son, Finn are urging families to get involved in this year’s initiative which will give them and their child’s school the opportunity to win from a record prize pool worth $18,000.

Packing a healthy lunchbox each day is important to me as I want to fuel my son's brain and body with good food to keep him going throughout the long school day.

Being involved in the competition last year really challenged us to pack a big variety in our son's lunchbox, to keep him full, happy and coming home with an empty lunchbox each day. We tried to include foods from each category - protein, carbs, fruit, vegies, and dairy. We still follow this rule today, but we also pop in a snack a couple of times a week to balance it out. All kids love snacks!

I’ve found that the key thing is to find food that your child enjoys. Getting the kids involved in packing their lunchbox ensures they will eat most of it too!
Christine, previous winner.

Christine was one of 10 winners, selected from across the country, of last year’s Australia’s Healthier Lunchboxes campaign for Finn’s lunchbox filled with a beef and cheese wrap, homemade banana bread, homemade zucchini slice, rockmelon, kiwi fruit, dragonfruit, strawberries and an apple.

The four-week initiative is all about shining a light on practical ideas and inspiration to show parents and children what’s possible when they know the facts about food.

Just as we partner with students and teachers to deliver education in schools across the country, we want to empower families to make choosing healthy easy. Because when we make healthier choices, we can go, grow and glow – like Healthy Harold teaches in our nutrition-based modules including the interactive My Body Matters.

Children learn by doing that’s why initiatives like Australia’s Healthier Lunchboxes are so important. It takes learning beyond the classroom and encourages families to get hands-on with their kids to embed learning and healthy choices, together.
Russell D’Costa, CEO at Life Ed Australia.

By simply taking a photo of their child’s healthier lunchbox, families will be in the running to win in a share of the record prize pool worth $18,000. There will be six winning families selected who will receive a Woolworths e-gift card valued at $1,000 each. Plus the school that their child attends will receive a Woolworths e-gift card valued at $2,000. Entries are open from 3 to 28 February. Judging will take place and winners will be announced in March.

As part of the Australia’s Healthier Lunchboxes initiative, parents and schools will be able to access free, engaging and practical resources and activities from Healthy Harold and Woolworths – from budget-friendly recipes, to colourful activities you can do at home with kids to spark healthier conversations.
